About the project

Lazard was founded in New Orleans in 1848, and marked its 175th year in 2023 with a firm-wide program — a retrospective film, a commemorative book, events across regions. A mark commemorating that has two contradictory jobs: feel like an occasion, and never compete with the house identity it sits beside. The solution locks the numeral to the Lazard wordmark as a fixed lockup, so it reads as an extension of the brand rather than a second logo.

The mark takes its inspiration from Art Deco — the same language as 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the building the firm calls home. The work was in the application: it needed to survive animation, large-format event graphics, print and merchandise, each with its own production constraints, which meant defining the lockup, clear space and color behavior once, then testing it everywhere it would appear across the anniversary year.
